“The clowns of the canine world”. The Pug’s facial features alone are enough to make anyone smile. The wrinkles around their big dark eyes combined with their flat round face will put any dog lover in a great mood. These pups also have a great sense of humor and will always be the center of attention in any social setting.
The Pug has an extremely interesting history. Their existence dates back to China during the Han dynasty (B.C. 206 to A.D 200). These little guys seem to have been a fan favorite from the start. They were very popular among Chinese emperors and lived lavish lifestyles. These little guys were even sometimes constantly guarded by soldiers….talk about royalty! When the Pug made it to Europe in the early 1600s, they were instantly popular among royalty as well. Kings and queens just loved having these dogs around, it’s hard to blame them!
These doggos were bred to be companion dogs and that is certainly what they do best. Do not expect them to hunt, retrieve or guard – they are royalty after all. The most retrieving that they’ll do is probably getting up from the couch to eat the food that you placed for them.
These purebred pups are so much fun to be around and their presence alone can instantly put you in a good mood. The Pug is not much of a yapper which your neighbors will be thankful for. While they don’t make a lot of noise from their barking you might still want to invest in some earplugs, let’s just say their snoring would likely wake the heaviest of sleepers.
