The Shiloh Shepherd is an impressive working dog that is incredibly versatile. They are both extremely intelligent and have a strong desire to work. As long as this dog has a job to do, they will be happy. Training will be fun for the Shiloh Shepherd as they are eager to learn new tasks and receive positive feedback from their beloved owners. These dogs make great family companions and want to be with their people all the time. Whether you are going for a hike, a run, or just a simple walk in the park, make sure to take your Shiloh Shepherd with you because these are all activities that they love!

These doggos were originally developed in New York in 1970, and they were created by combining a few different dog breeds. Among the dog breeds included in the Shiloh Shepherd’s makeup are the German Shepherd and the Alaskan Malamute. This breed was considered a purebred dog by nearly every organization since 1990, but they are still not considered a purebred dog by the AKC. The Shiloh Shepherd has a striking resemblance to the German Shepherd, but the main difference is that the Shiloh Shepherd is larger. Weighing between 80-130 pounds, the Shiloh Shepherd is protective and makes an excellent guard dog. That being said, they are also known to have an overall gentle personality. They are big softies on the inside and show tons of affection toward their families.

The combination of this dog’s work ethic, protective instinct, and gentle personality has resulted in them becoming some of the most capable working dogs. These dogs can work in more physically demanding roles such as police, search and rescue, and guarding-related jobs, but can just as easily be found working as service/guide/therapy dogs. The capabilities of these dogs are incredible, and seeing them thrive at their respective job is fascinating.

The Shiloh Shepherd is a relatively rare breed, and even when you do see one in public, there is a good chance that you will mistake them for a German Shepherd. Those that have brought a Shiloh Shepherd home to be a part of their family know how amazing they are to have around. Another nice aspect about the Shiloh Shepherd is they tend to get along very well with other dogs if socialized from a young age. They have very high energy levels, so taking your pup to the dog park can be a great way to allow them to socialize and get rid of all their pent-up energy!
