The Treeing Walker Coonhound is a striking purebred dog. These pups, typically weighing between 45-80 pounds, can be identified by their signature tricolor coats. The coat can have different patterns, but the colors will be white, black, and tan. These doggos are true hounds and make unbelievable hunters. They have an excellent sense of smell and will always search for prey to chase after and try to catch. Their high prey drive means that it is especially important to keep a close eye on them when they are in an off-leash area. They can easily get distracted while following a scent and can accidentally leave the enclosure.

This hound dog is a descendant of the English Foxhound. Given their incredible hunting abilities, the Walker was an invaluable tool for hunters. They earned their name because they would trail game very quickly and keep the animal in a tree until their hunter counterpart arrived. These dogs will always be among the fastest dogs in the dog park, as their long muscular legs and ideal runner build allows them to cover tons of ground with minimal effort.

These doggos are purebred, but they certainly do not all have identical personalities. You may encounter Walkers that are confident and outgoing, while others that you see may be more reserved. Regardless of their personality, these dogs must run every day as they have very high energy levels. They will not feel their best without going for a nice daily run.

The Treeing Walker Coonhound makes an incredible family dog, but not always the best neighbor dog. They tend to bark a lot, and this is a trait that is difficult to train out of them. Their barking does make them great guardians, and you can be sure that they will be looking out for their beloved family all the time. These are highly devoted animals and love being with their people. These pups are workers but have a gentle side to them that only their immediate family can truly understand. This pup is best suited for a more active family and will love nothing more than going for a hike with their people where they can roam freely and enjoy all of the interesting smells!
