Bull Arab

The Bull Arab is a powerful dog that is known to be a remarkable hunter. This 60-95 pound dog was bred to have excellent scent tracking skills. Their scent tracking abilities would lead them straight to their prey, typically pigs, and their strength would allow them to pin the pigs down by the ears until the hunter would arrive. Due to their pig hunting abilities, the Bull Arab is also often referred to as the “Australian Pig Dog” and the “Aussie Pig".

This dog breed was originally developed in Australia in 1972. The Bull Arab was created by combining the English Bull Terrier and a crossbreed between the Short-Haired Pointer and the Greyhound. The Bull Arab was so good at their hunting job that breeders began including Mastiffs and Great Danes in their genetics to increase their size. These dogs are still used in Australia for hunting but are also commonly seen guarding properties. You can be sure that an intruder will think twice before trespassing on an area guarded by a Bull Arab.

The Bull Arab is not recommended for inexperienced dog owners as they must be trained very well and socialized from an early age. If a Bull Arab is not well-trained, it can behave aggressively toward other dogs. On the flip side, a well-trained Bull Arab has a very calm and gentle personality. They are one of the most loyal animals to their owners and will always be glad to snuggle up on the couch with their beloved family members.

This dog loves to be outside and will certainly need daily exercise. Given that they still have the hunting instinct deeply rooted in their DNA, the Bull Arab will have a very high prey drive and will love chasing after small animals. For this reason, it is usually not recommended to keep other smaller animals in the same home as a Bull Arab. When you take this pup out on walks and hikes, make sure to have command of the leash because if a squirrel runs by, your dog will stop at nothing to catch it!
