The German Pinscher is a beautiful dog with a very elegant appearance. These working dogs are muscular as well as agile and can serve many purposes besides being a wonderful companion dog. These 25-45 pound pups love to play and will love nothing more than spending time with their family.
This dog breed originated in Germany in the late 18th century. They were originally bred to hunt and kill rodents, and they are still highly skilled at this job. The German Pinscher has retained their prey drive until this day and will be ready to chase after just about anything that moves. Let’s just say that it is probably not the best idea to keep pet rodents in the house with one of these dogs around.
These dogs are very wary of strangers and have an excellent sense of when there is a real threat at hand. The German Pinscher is known to be an amazing guard dog, they will instantly alert you if someone is on your property and will not shy away from attacking an intruder if they feel that there is a threat present. They may not be the largest dog, but the breed is very muscular and has a tenacious attitude when it comes to protecting the people that they love. While they are suspicious of strangers, this breed is very friendly toward everyone that they are familiar with.
This type of dog is not fit for every owner, they require someone that will be able to train them firmly and consistently. The German Pinscher has a tendency to be assertive and dominant, which can lead to them trying to become the dominant figure in the household. This can of course be trained out of them if done properly from an early age. These pups will also need plenty of exercise as they are packed with energy. They have a very playful nature, and this characteristic will continue well into adulthood. One downside about this breed is that you may need to take a second job to maintain all of the chew toys that they will need, they destroy these things at a shocking rate!
