The German Sheprador is a loyal companion that combines the qualities of both a great family dog as well as an alert watchdog. They are friendly pups and will become your new best friend the moment that they enter your home for the first time. These dogs are also often referred to as a “Labrashepherd” and typically weigh between 60-95 pounds.
This mixed breed is a combination of the German Shepherd and the Labrador Retriever. It is believed that this dog was first intentionally bred in the 1990s in an attempt to reduce the health problems sometimes associated with their purebred parents. The combination produced a well-balanced dog that contained many great qualities, and as a result, the demand for them grew.
Given that both of the German Shepradors’ parents are hard workers, they inherited this characteristic as well. They are extremely intelligent and will always desire to have a job to do in any shape or form. Training these dogs should never be an issue, as they will thrive on learning new commands and performing them for their beloved owners, especially if there are some tasty treats involved. Teaching these pups new tricks will certainly stimulate them mentally, however, they will need to be exercised physically on a daily basis too, as they have very high energy levels. Leaving these dogs home alone with a full tank of energy is a recipe for disaster as they will become bored and look for a job to do, even if that means redesigning your new sofa.
Labrashepherds are extremely protective of their families and will make sure to always alert you when anyone is approaching your property. They are quite the large dog, so their presence alone is usually enough to dissuade any intruder from considering entering your home unannounced. This protective quality displays itself when the dog feels like there may be a threat at hand, but generally, they are extremely well-mannered and friendly. They get along great with both humans and other dogs alike and enjoy nothing more than spending quality time with the ones that they love.
