The Labradoodle is currently growing in popularity at an extremely high rate. This breed has so many amazing qualities that it is no mystery why they are becoming one of the most popular family dogs. These pups are highly affectionate toward their family, but it is especially beautiful to see how they approach each new friend with the same eagerness.
These dogs were originally bred in Australia in 1989, and the initial goal was to create a hypoallergenic guide dog. The Labradoodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Labrador Retriever. While this cross produced the dog that we all love today, they didn’t quite make it as guide dogs. The issue was the inconsistent behaviors of the offspring. The characteristics and temperaments from a litter of Labradoodles are not as homogeneous as with purebred pups, which is an issue when training them for such a delicate task.
It is very important to be wary of where you buy(or hopefully rescue!) your Labradoodle. The unfortunate truth is that with the gain of a dog's popularity comes the irresponsible backyard breeders that try and make a quick buck. The dogs that result from these breeders can often have serious health issues.
The Labradoodle is a great family dog, but they are certainly not the best guard dogs. If a home invader breaks into your home your Labradoodle will not bark and bite, but rather invite them in for coffee and help them pack away the fine China set!
