This little guy may not look like much, but don’t be fooled by their size! The pomeranian originates from large sled-pulling dogs and still thinks like them. Don’t be shocked when you see these 3-7 pound doggos going face to face with an 85 pound German Shepherd!
This dog breed originates from Pomerania. Today this historical land is part Poland and part Germany. They were bred from large, intelligent dogs to create a smaller but still intelligent companion dog. The breed became especially popular when Queen Victoria took a liking to them. She began to use them in various dog shows and became so attached to them that she demanded that her favorite Pom be by her side on her deathbed. This new fame gave English dog breeders an incentive to breed more of them.
The Pom has been known to be “the little dog that thinks he can”. This is because they are truly fearless and will not back down from any dog or person. Their incessant barking can scare much larger breeds away from them. They even make excellent watchdogs as any intruder that even comes close to your front door will be met with loud nonstop barking. If you haven't trained your Pomeranian to stop barking on command, you probably don’t make your neighbors too happy.
These foxy-faced looking pups make great companions. They love receiving as much affection as you can give. You must assert dominance in the relationship at an early stage with your Pom, otherwise, they will quickly and happily take on the role of the dominant figure in the household. Let's just say that having a Pomeranian dictator in the house will not be the most pleasant experience!
