The Pyredoodle is a wonderful family dog that has many great characteristics. These dogs have a very calm nature but will transform into fearless protectors if they feel as though their family is in any type of danger. They have an especially large dedication when it comes to keeping the children in the family safe. The size of the Pyredoodle alone is generally enough to scare away any intruder, they typically weigh between 85-100 pounds.
This breed is a mix between the Great Pyrenees and the Standard Poodle. The breed was first intentionally bred in the early 2000s in North America to create a larger dog that would not be prone to shedding. As it turned out, the Pyredoodle does not shed much, and they are especially popular among allergy sufferers. The breed goes by other names as well such as “Pyreneespoo”, “Pyrepoo”, and “Pyreneesdoodle”.
This mixed breed is sometimes timid in the presence of strangers, but they will open up once they get to know an individual more. Their reservation towards strangers is a result of their protective nature which has them on alert at all times in case their beloved family is in any danger. The Pyredoodle is extremely intelligent as well, they may have their stubborn streaks at times but training them is usually not the biggest hurdle to overcome.
These pups have a relatively high energy level and will certainly need their daily exercise for them to feel their best. Taking these big guys out to the park is always a pleasure as they usually get along very well with other dogs. The loyalty and love that this dog will display toward their family is something very special. There is a unique bond that is formed between the Pyredoodle and their owners, which is why it is no surprise that they are becoming more and more popular.
