This mixed breed is a combination between the Saint Bernard and the Poodle. Typically, designer breeds have only been intentionally bred in the last few decades however the Saint Berdoodle has been around since the 1880s in the US. Saint Bernards were very popular at the time as rescue dogs, so the purpose of this breed was to maintain the protectiveness and rescue dog nature of the Saint Bernard while adding the intelligence and trainability of the Poodle. Even though these dogs are usually on the larger side, their size can vary between 40-180 pounds depending on the size of the parents.
Often referred to as “Saint Berpoo”, these doggos love exploring outside. While they do have energy that they will need to burn off every day, their large size will make them very tired, and they will likely return home and take a nice long nap. While they can be mischievous at times, the Saint Berdoodle is very trainable and will not make too much trouble around the house besides maybe stealing your shoes now and then.
The fun-loving nature of this breed makes them very enjoyable to be around. Their presence alone is enough to make any dog lover feel very calm and relaxed. Your pup will love when you have company over as they are highly social animals and will never shy away from meeting new people. Their social nature does come with one cost, and that is that they detest being left home alone. They do best with families that love taking their doggo everywhere they go, you might want to consider getting a bigger car!
