Located at 58 Thackeray Street in Elwood, VIC, this official dog park is designed as a fenced space for dogs to play. However, it has received mixed reviews from dog owners. The park is relatively small, making it more suitable for smaller dogs, but this limited space can lead to overcrowding and safety concerns, particularly with larger or more energetic dogs. Some users have reported issues with aggressive or overly excited dogs, suggesting that the park can be a challenging environment for both dogs and their owners. Moreover, amenities are minimal, with a water tap and bowl located outside the gate, and the absence of shade creates discomfort during warmer days. There are also concerns about the lack of a double-gated entry system, increasing the risk of dogs escaping near busy roads. Overall, while the park offers a dog-friendly environment, it's essential for owners to remain vigilant and assess whether it's suitable for their specific dog, particularly in light of the noted safety concerns and the experiences shared by other visitors.

The idea of this park would be great for small dogs only. The park is fully fenced and it is rather small. When you have a dog per square meter it becomes unsafe. I have witnessed over aroused dogs with antisocial behaviour, intimidating other dogs, and uneducated owners not being able to read their dog. I’ve been witnessed a staffy owner on his phone while a man politely asked multiple times to stop his dog from nipping his dog. I have witnessed a person who took foster dogs to this park while their had kennel cough (she told me this!) and at that time I was with my puppy. I walked away and never went back. Simply not safe for so many reasons.

This park is fine, but far from great. Water tap/bowl is outside the gate and it's not double-gated, and given its proximity to Marine Parade, that's pretty lax. There's currently no shade - maybe the vegetation will grow and add that, but it's really poor design. Once when I went there, an older woman tried to hit my dog for picking up her dog's ball, then asked me "which way" I was going and I was incredulous because it's such a small park that it's not worth going if you're not willing to share the space.
